It has been just over a month since you participated in the ShoeBox-101 Teleseminar where you learned the basics of setting up your accounting system. It is now February, and I am nudging you to make sure that you have your file folders started, that you have completed your filing for January 2009, and compiled a simple, yet very important Profit and Loss Statement for last month. Yes…You can! Start with those basics and grow from here.It’s exciting that we are taking control of our own businesses while others are going nuts – Meggin’s recent workshop, “Staying Positive in a Freaked-out World” says it all. My business has expanded during the last few months, because every business owner needs to understand their financial statements and be aware of revenues and expenditures affecting the profitability of a business. I have been adding several free reports for you to download from my website www.marie-gibson.com and have a number more to complete (I’m hurrying).

I am also thinking about offering a free one-hour question and answer period in March for those of you who have some further questions. Please let me know if you are interested in this type of conversation, and if you would prefer a day or evening call.

I am listening (re-listening since I need to hear things many times) to a SpeakerNetNews teleseminar with Patrick Donadio.  I listened to it about 6 months ago and of course, now I’m hearing things I am sure were not on there the first time I listened.  And one of those “new” items prompted this post…

One of his suggestions is to create a “Belief Journal.”  Here are some suggestion questions to ask and answer in your journal (and I’m going to do so in mine):

• What do you believe about yourself?
• What do you believe about your marketplace?
• What do you believe about your products?
• What do you believe about your clients?
• What do you believe about the world, etc?

There are many different questions that you can answer.  But the main idea is that you are getting to the core of what you believe–so they you can look at that and how it’s making an impact on your work (and personal life, too, of course). 

Just yesterday I was talking with someone whose business is slow right now (she’s an organizer).  She said, “But it’s always slow at this time of year.”  That is her belief and so I would think that is having an impact on whether her business is always slow at the beginning of the year.  In my mind, organizing businesses are booming at the beginning of the year with all the publicity about Getting Organized Month and people “turning over a new leaf” for being organized for the next year, etc. 

So, take some time this weekend to think this through and write in the journal you received when you joined MEMc.  See what you learn and discover and are affirmed by.  Feel free to comment on this post.
