Staying Positive in a Freaked-Out World – Ask Others How They Are Doing

Posted on August 16th, 2009, by Meggin McIntosh, Ph.D.

Lots of people are freaked-out right now.  Have you noticed any of the following?

  • Maybe it’s places that you’re normally patient and all of a sudden you’re not patient. You might be biting people’s heads off when that’s not your normal way.
  • Maybe you feel like your bucket is completely empty or your well is dry. You feel that you don’t have anything left to give to other people and that it’s a burden to keep trying to keep a stiff upper lip or to try to encourage other people, and normally it doesn’t feel that way.
  • Possibly you feel a sense of heaviness or a fear. You might be worrying about some things that you normally don’t worry about.
  • Maybe it takes less for you to feel sad or stressed than it normally does. Whatever it might be, you want to take a look at what your normal place is and where some things might be abnormal for you right now.

Take some time and check in with others to see how they are feeling right now – and see if you can offer them any support or a fresh outlook.
