Write-On-Site (Thanks, Kerry Ann!)
Listen to this brilliant idea, which I learned from one of Kerry Ann Rockquemore’s newsletters (www.NewFacultySuccess.com)
Have a ‘Write-On-Site” group. Her group meets every Friday at a coffee house from 10 – noon. She describes it this way:
It’s very simple: we gather at the coffee shop every week and write for two hours. There is free parking, free wireless access, and lots of positive writing energy! If you’re not in Chicago, why not start your own Write-On-Site group?
For so many of us, we don’t need to be collaborating with anyone else on our writing, but we need
- the accountability,
- the feeling that we are part of a community of writers, and
- the energy that comes from being around others.
I’ve heard many say, and I concur from my own experience, that we can often get more work done when we are in a place like a coffee shop, an airport, a hotel lobby, or somewhere else…not where we know anyone but where there is energy. That energy mixes with ours and then we can move into a creative, productive space.
So, think about establishing a ‘Write-On-Site’ group where you live. Just try it out.
Thanks again, Kerry Ann (and here’s her contact info):
