Diminish Overwhelm – Do More of What Boosts Your Energy (1)

Posted on July 9th, 2009, by Meggin McIntosh, Ph.D.

A ‘most excellent’ way for you to diminish overwhelm is to do more of what boosts your energy. If you want to glide through your days with ease (doesn’t that sound good?!) then you need as much energy as you can possibly muster. There will be plenty of people, events, and responsibilities during most days that will use your energy, take your energy, zap your energy, require your energy, and so forth–so you have to attend to doing more of what boosts your energy reserves.

I tend to be a glass half-full person, but this metaphor doesn’t work with energy because you don’t have to worry about ‘overfilling’ your glass. You can increase the size of your container–and there’s no limit to how large you can make your energy container. You can boost energy in all four of these areas:

  1. Physical energy
  2. Emotional energy
  3. Mental energy
  4. Spiritual energy

These are ALL important, so consider ways not only to fill the container you have, but to make your container bigger. Give yourself more capacity, if you will. Truly, you are the only person who can and will attend to this for yourself, so please read and think about the ideas in this article carefully.

“The best way to keep young is to keep going in whatever it is that keeps you going. With me, that’s work, and a lot of it. And when a job is finished, relax and have fun.” Ingrid Bergman
