Negative Evaluations…Or a New Horror Movie?
Super idea from Linda:
My Horror Movie
Recently, negative evaluations was the topic of the month on SpeakerNetNews. I felt compelled to share my secret. Goofy as it might be, it really works for me.
I pretend am writing a movie. Every negative eval goes into my “movie” pile. I need to anchor them in a secure place so they do swim around in my head. They’re not allowed out of the movie pile. When I realize this movie is full of negatives, it gets turned on its head and becomes hysterical. Can you imagine a 90 minute movie filled with this ridiculousness? Makes me shake my head and smile. Try it. Make your own horror movie. When you turn it into a spoof, you’ll crack yourself up! I go even further.
I put all negative scenarios and fears into another horror movie. Some things don’t have humor right away, like bad dreams or fearful thoughts. So I let them remain horrible in the horror movie that is really scary. Instead of fighting them, or trying to erase them, it’s easier for me to allow them to exist–just somewhere else. This frees up some psychic RAM for my positive big picture.
