Pricing – Long Distance Book Club

Posted on August 28th, 2008, by Meggin McIntosh

Question:

I have a group of thirty educators in Indiana interested in doing a long distance book study about Differentiated Instruction.  The books and registration will be paid by the school district.  How much should I charge for thirty participants for a weekly webinar or teleseminar covering the span of a six section book study?

Answer:

First of all…YAY!  That is great!!

Secondly, with pricing, I need a bit more info to answer completely.

  1. How much time each week (or whatever span of time)?
  2. How many weeks will this continue?  It’s not that you’re charging by the hour but you need to know what amount of time you’ll be working.
  3. How much prep are you expecting you’ll need to do?

So, once you think about that, I would think that a teleseminar format would work fine.  I don’t think there’s any need to go to the extra expense and complexity of doing a webinar.

So just send me a little more info and I’ll add to this post.

Thanks!!

More info from Michele:

The book study will be once a month, maybe an hour format, six months.  Not much leg work on my part-just learning how to set up the teleconference and recording to place it on my website.  Plus, I think I’ll open it up to my previous participants as well.  Just wasn’t sure what to charge…The books won’t even be through me-the school corporation will do the ordering.

PLUS, I was just asked to lead another book study for ALL the administrators for Lafayette School Corporation-Yea!!!!!!  I have no idea what to charge them, but I imagine it will be similar format.

Thanks for posting it on your blog!

Response:

Woo-ee!  Very exciting!

So with that additional info re the format, etc., here are some ranges:

  • There is a tremendous amount of work that you will put in on this.  I have been working on the 90-minute “Networking for Introverts” teleseminar that is coming up in a week.  I have put in well over 24 hours so far in preparation.  It’s staggering how long it takes when you are creating a learning environment for adults…your own learning, prep of materials, setting up the technology, etc.  Ultimately, this will be about an 30+ hour task.  So REALLY think about what you’re saying when you say ‘not much leg work on my part.’

I look forward to your response on this as well as the feedback from other MEMc members.

Thanks!!
