Teleclass Info (promoting teleseminars)

Posted on December 6th, 2007, by Meggin McIntosh

Question:

Meggin and MEMc Bloggers,

Has anyone used http://www.teleclass.info?   And, any ideas of how to approach the following topic?

I am setting up a free weekly tip where I take a favorite good piece of literature and have some question prompts parents can use to get the most out of books, with one of the underlying goals of helping parents talk about values with their kids.  I love books and want to target these same parents with a tele seminar on presenting how to have good discussions with their kids using good lit, or positive and well conceived characters in the media.

My target audience is parents who already have a desire and evidence of being proactive in their child’s overall well being.  For example, I am reaching out to the parents who take their kids to the dentist for check ups, not just when there is a toothache.  I believe these are the parents who care about their child’s learning but sometimes may not always have the tools.

Any suggestions how I could structure the tele class? Or a slick title? And, what would you consider paying for something like this?

Answer:

I’m going to start with the last question first…re charging.  You first have to have people who even know about the class.  I would start fairly low (if not free) to build up your client base.  THEN you can start charging for this.  Another way to look at it is to charge a very high price and try to attract the people for whom money is no object and they like to buy expensive things because they can.  But you have find those folks, first.

Are you looking for a title for one teleclass or a whole series?  I think since you have a great series of articles & tips, you could also have a series of teleseminars so you may need a broad title so people know it’s part of the series and then a subtitle that is the specifics of the class.

Here are questions for you to think about:

  1. What is your purpose for the teleseminars?  To make money?  To get more clients so you can let them know about your other services & products?  To enlist them in helping you get the word out?  Answer the first question and then that helps give guidance to the charging piece.
  2. How will you advertise the class?  Email, flyers at dentists’ offices, take out ads, write articles and have in your resource box, “For a free teleseminar on _____,” go to _______________,” ask teachers to send home info to their students’ parents, etc.
  3. Do you want a sponsor for your teleseminars so that they pay for it, and maybe help advertise it, and then you “plug” their materials or services?

I have heard of teleclass.info although I’ve never used it.  So it is another option for you.

Keep thinking and then keep asking questions.  You’re starting to see how all these pieces fit together.
